Women and young children escaping violence and forced child marriage often have nowhere else to go. Ny Trano Manga provides immediate protection, food, and recovery support in southern Madagascar. Your support keeps the shelter open.
Ny Trano Manga is the first safe shelter for women and girls in southern Madagascar, located in Ambovombe. The shelter opened in January 2025 and provides protection and support to survivors of gender-based violence, rape, and forced child marriage.
Since opening, the shelter has received over 60 women and more than 100 of their young children, many of whom had no available protection system.
Women arrive regularly seeking safety, medical care, psychological support, and assistance rebuilding their lives. Without the shelter, most would have nowhere to go.
Your support allows these essential services to continue.
Donations fund the daily operation of the shelter, including accommodation, food, medical assistance, psychosocial care, and rehabilitation programs for the women and their children. This is not a one-time intervention but an ongoing protection service.
The annual operating cost of the shelter is $42,000.
IRC Africa operates in southern Madagascar together with the local women-led organization TERATANY.
Our work focuses on direct protection for women and children affected by violence, and on building long-term pathways to independence through employment and training.
The shelter in Ambovombe operates daily and relies on continued public support.
Thank you for helping keep it open.
