Remote and Field Volunteering
Remote contributions can range from one conversation to a short assignment involving mentoring, training, research, writing, document review, tool development, or a professional introduction.
Every assignment begins with an agreed role, scope, timeframe, and local contact.
Field roles are locally requested and offered only when the team confirms a genuine need and safe conditions. Submitting the form does not reserve a placement.
Local Leadership Comes First
TERATANY leads daily work on the ground. Volunteers contribute without replacing those who understand the community, language, and local reality.
Clear Terms
IRC Africa Inc. and TERATANY do not charge participation fees or create roles because someone can pay to travel.
For an approved field assignment:
- Volunteers pay for their international flights to and from Madagascar.
- Availability, costs, and arrangements for basic accommodation, meals, and drinking water are agreed in advance.
- IRC Africa Inc. and TERATANY may cover local expenses only when dedicated funding is available.
- All costs, conditions, and practical details are confirmed in writing before arrival.
Volunteers should not book travel until a field assignment has been confirmed in writing.
Donations are never required or expected. Volunteers may later choose to support our work independently.
Safeguarding and Privacy
Field volunteering does not provide general access to the shelter or to people receiving support.
Roles involving contact with women, children, shelter residents, or sensitive information require screening, references, confidentiality, safeguarding training, and a code of conduct.
Access is limited to the approved role and requires local authorization and supervision.
People and privacy come before documentation, publicity, or a volunteer’s experience.
